A big shout-out to cocktail co-conspirators, Nina and Tom, who had one of these at Peninsula in East Nashville and asked for the proportions. They thought I’d love it and they were right!
I have no idea about the reasoning behind the name, but it’s perfect for this season as spring springs, retreats, and re-springs. And that’s good enough for me. Substantial – the base is bourbon – but not dark and heavy. It’s surprisingly light, and very refreshing. But not citrus-forward like so many (delicious) spring and summer drinks.
Further, it introduced me to Strega, a lovely Italian herbal liqueur – sweet/bitter with a slight anise undertone. Nice on the rocks and great in this cocktail!
Mix up a few of these while you wait for spring to get here for good!
Moral Majority
1.5 ounce bourbon
.5 ounce Strega
.5 ounce Campari
.5 ounce lemon juice
.25 ounce simple syrup
Shake with ice and serve straight up.
